Planning Week Two        Term 3 2014               S Dunkley

Learning Intentions and Activities
Teacher Reflection
M
Memory Activity/Game
WALHT practise remembering things.
Ø  Flipchart memory game. One minute to memorise.
Ø  Kim’s Game (view objects on a tray  for one minute and draw each of them in book)

O
Ordering and Patterns

WALHT read numbers up to 1000. .
Ø  Write various numbers on the board. Tell a buddy what that number is.
Ø   Use flipchart to discuss numbers as well.
WALHT count forward and backwards in 10’s to 1000.
Ø  Start with up to 100. Random numbers 460, ….
WALHT see a pattern. (subitise)
Ø  Use subitising patterning cards. Work with a buddy.
Ø  Use 10’s frames. Discuss tens frames and what they actually are. Can we see patterns on the tens frame?

V
Values and Facts

WALHT find different numbers that make 10. .
There are 10 monkeys in two trees. Work with a buddy to find out all the different ways the monkeys could be in the trees.  (Rainbow). Draw in books.
WALHT practise our facts to twenty. (Doubles to 20 and facts to 10)
Ø  Squeezy boxes.
Ø  Quick fire test glue into book.

E

Expand and revise strategy

Use developing thinking in Mathematics with effective questioning.

RRRAW
productive talk –
Revoice
Repeat
Reason
Add on
Wait time

Use “math talk” prompts for children on the wall.
WALHT to find the place value of a number. solve
Resources  - PV house, PV flip chart, PV blocks
Can children say what the place value versus face value is?
How many 10’s in 30, 124, 345?

WALHT solve problems by using place value. (Addition)
Present a place value addition problem. George has 43 marbles and bought 38 more at the supermarket how many has he got all together? (Use problem solving strategies – do they know or have any – teach and discuss these if not).

WALHT estimate (visualise on a number line)
Draw a number line 0-100. Where is half way? Where would 75 be placed? 10?

Game and Reflection

Reflection wall questions.
Today I learnt…
It was tricky when…
I am pleased about…
I enjoyed…
I still need to practise…

Game
Ten Pin Bowling (write in books so ALL are participating)

Identified problems for moving from Stage 4 to 5 are:
Addressed in this week’s planning (highlighted)
Ø  Trouble estimating (visualising on a number line)
Ø  Limited recall of addition and subtraction basic facts
Ø  Limited knowledge of groupings within ten and decades
Ø  Poor estimating skills
Ø  Limited part whole thinking
Ø  Difficulty visualising place value groupings
Ø  Limited understanding of place value
